Common Questions About Booking a Consultation

What’s the difference between the discovery call and an initial consultation?

The discovery call is a free 10-minute conversation to understand your situation and confirm we’re the right fit. An initial consultation is a focused session with one of our lawyers: we review your circumstances, explain your options clearly, and give you a personalised plan you can act on. You leave with genuine legal advice, not general information.

Which option should I choose if I’m not sure?

Choose “Something Else” and include brief notes when booking, or start with a free 10-minute discovery call and we’ll help you pick the right next step. You won’t be locked into anything by choosing the wrong option.

Can I book if I’m not in Brisbane?

Yes. For Brisbane clients, we offer mobile appointments and come to you: your home, your workplace, or wherever suits. For clients across the rest of Queensland, we meet by phone or video call. You’re also welcome at our West End office if that’s easier.

Who will I be meeting with?

One of our lawyers, matched to your matter. Dion McCurdy, our Principal Lawyer, has practised exclusively in Wills and Estates since 2013. Dion handles Estate Planning matters and complex estate disputes (Estate Litigation). Liam Ellery works across both Estate Planning and Estate Litigation, but focuses on Estate Administration, Probate and Letters of Administration. Mindy, our Client Services Officer, arranges the time and can answer any questions before you book.

How much does an initial consultation cost?

All consultation fees are fixed and confirmed upfront, with no hidden costs. The fee depends on whether you’re booking as an individual or a couple, and whether we meet online, at our West End office, or at your location. Fees range from $300 to $500 including GST. Click the Book a Consultation button and choose how you would like to meet us to see exactly what your fee is before booking. The 10-minute discovery call is free.

How long does an initial consultation run?

An initial consultation usually runs for between 45 minutes and 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on whether you are single or a couple and the complexity of your circumstances. If you would like to know how long you will need, feel free to give us a call or book a 10-minute discovery call, and we’ll let you know beforehand so you can allow enough time.

What should I bring or prepare?

Please include brief notes when booking so we can come prepared. For Estate Planning clients, it helps to have a copy of your existing Will and a rough list of your assets and liabilities, including details of your superannuation and life insurance. For Estate Administration clients, please bring the deceased’s original Will and death certificate (if available), and any details of the deceased’s family and financial circumstances that you have easy access to. If you don’t have these to hand, don’t worry: we can still talk through your situation and give useful, actionable advice.
